Abstract:
This study investigates the grammatical cohesive devices employed in the inaugural speech of Governor Babagana Umaru Zulum, focusing on their role in enhancing textual coherence and communicative effectiveness. The speech, delivered upon assuming office, serves as a crucial discourse that outlines the governor’s vision, policies, and plans for governance in Borno State, Nigeria. Through a comprehensive analysis of cohesive devices such as conjunctions, pronouns, lexical cohesion, and grammatical parallelism, the study aims to uncover patterns of linguistic cohesion and their rhetorical functions within the speech.
