Amgen Scholars Program at Tokyo University – Japan, 2023; The Amgen Scholars Program provides hundreds of students each year with the opportunity to undertake scientific research projects at many of the world’s leading institutions.

The objective of the program is to provide undergraduate students from different countries (including some from Japan) who are committed to or who are considering a career in biology or related sciences and looking to continue to graduate studies, with eight weeks of biomedical research experience in the basic and translational sciences. Research experiences are being provided by faculty members of the Graduate School of MedicineGraduate School of EngineeringGraduate School of ScienceGraduate School of Pharmaceutical SciencesGraduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the Institute of Industrial Science. By the end of their summer experience, students are expected to have acquired knowledge and skills for conducting research. The students are also expected to extend their international friendships through the collaborative experiences. These experiences will help the students develop future collaborations in many situations.

2023 Lt-Col Henry Kirkpatrick Scholarship at LSHTM, UK; Lieutenant Colonel Henry Kirkpatrick’s daughters, Elsie and Daphne Kirkpatrick, bequeathed to the school funds to establish scholarships “for the promotion and encouragement of study in the ophthalmic section” in memory of their father.

Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Kirkpatrick (1871–1958) was interested in ophthalmology from fairly early in his career. His career in the Indian Medical Service provided opportunities—through work in the General Hospital in Madras, the university, and the Government Ophthalmic Hospital—to improve teaching and postgraduate training in pathology and ophthalmology. On retiring from Madras, he was an ophthalmic surgeon at the Tropical Diseases Hospital and a lecturer in ophthalmology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

  • full tuition fees for MSc Public Health for Eye Care at the overseas fee rate, and

  • GBP 1,500.00 towards MSc project costs, and
  • GBP 1,100.00 upon successful completion of the course to be used towards attendance at the Alumni Workshop during the week of the graduation ceremony.

Cisco Global Citizen Youth Leadership Award 2023; Global Citizen and their global technology partner Cisco have announced applications for the fourth annual Global Citizen Prize: Cisco Youth Leadership Award. The award recognizes a young change-maker between the ages of 18 and 30 who has taken an innovative approach to problem solving and has made a meaningful difference towards the goal of ending poverty in their community.

The Global Citizen Prize: Cisco Youth Leadership Award was established by Cisco and Global Citizen to recognize and lift up a young person positively impacting the world, demonstrate the impact that young people are having on achieving the United Nation’s Global Goals, and accelerate global problem solving.
