A STUDY OF RETAILING IN GYELLESU AREA OF ZARIA
ABSTRACT
As a human activity retailing needs to be studied, understood and improved. This study is a census of retail trade carried out within the area of interest. It contains the demographics of retailers (proprietors and workers) as well as important variables relating to the outlets. Several visits were made to the individual outlets to collect the data, which was then tabulated and analyzed. The study revealed the nature, characteristics and structure of retailing within the area under study. In the process the problems of retailing in the area were identified and highlighted. Although the study was restricted to Gyellesu area the researcher believes the findings can be generalized for the whole country. Also the paucity of material in retailing make the study to assume a pioneer status that could act as a precursor to other studies.
