JATROPHA CURCAS SEED CAKE AS AN ORGANIC FERTILIZER

Abstract

This work discusses jatropha curcas seed cake as an organic fertilizer. This experiment was designed to determine the effectiveness of Jatropha curcas seed cake as an organic fertilizer compared to that of a slow-release, inorganic fertilizer. Another purpose was to determine the most effective amount of the cake to grow a green bean plant. Nine different green bean plants were used as control without any fertilizer in them. Another five bean plants were supplied with a certain amount of the selected slow-release, inorganic fertilizer. Furthermore, there were two trials for each of the five different amounts of Jatropah cake used as fertilizer. The comparison ratios of the amount of the common fertilizer to that of Jatropha cake were 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, and 1:5. The set amount of the common fertilizer was 3 g for each container. As a result, the amounts of Jatropha cake used for the containers were 3 g, 6 g, 9g, 12 g, and 15 g. The stem height of a plant was measured and the number of leaves was counted to assess the plant’s state of growth. The experiment was continued for three weeks until many of the plants died off. The common fertilizer was three times more effective than Jatropha cake in growing a bean plant; 3g of the common fertilizer and 9 g
