development. The question in this struggle, as it were is always the question of
designing and selecting the best development strategy.
In Nigeria, attention has been turned to rural areas as a base for
meaningful development. It is in recognition of this that CBN inaugurated the rural
banking scheme in 1977, which will be responsible for movement of funds from
the surplus to the deficit sectors of the economy and at the same time in
calculating the banking habit among rural populace.
Based on this literature, the study was conducted to assess the
performance of UBA Plc in rural banking programme as one of the top three
commercial banks in the country expected to transform the economic fortune of
rural areas through her activities.
In the course of the study the extent to which UBA meets federal
government expectation were highlighted. It was further proved that the
establishment of the rural branches did not affect the profit making ability of UBA
and should accept the social responsibility of contributing actively to the achieving
the development goal in the Nigerian economy.Economic growth and development is a fundamental question in life of any
