A REVIEW OF DETERMINATION OF DOSES AND CANCER RISK TO PATIENTS UNDERGOING SELECTED DIGITAL X-RAY EXAMINATION
Abstract:
Determination of Doses and Cancer Risk to Patients Undergoing Selected Digital X-Ray Examination
This study investigates the doses received by patients undergoing selected digital X-ray examinations and evaluates the associated cancer risk. Digital X-ray technology has become widely used in medical imaging due to its efficiency, image quality, and reduced radiation exposure compared to traditional film-based X-ray systems. However, concerns remain regarding the potential health risks associated with radiation exposure during diagnostic procedures.
Using a combination of dosimetric measurements, computational modeling, and risk assessment techniques, this research quantifies the radiation doses received by patients during digital X-ray examinations of specific anatomical regions, such as the chest, abdomen, and extremities. It also estimates the lifetime cancer risk attributable to these doses, considering factors such as patient age, gender, and anatomical site of exposure.
The study aims to provide valuable insights into the radiation dose levels encountered by patients during digital X-ray examinations and the corresponding cancer risk. By analyzing dose data and cancer risk estimates, healthcare providers can better understand the potential health implications of diagnostic imaging procedures and tailor patient care accordingly.
Additionally, the research contributes to ongoing efforts to optimize radiation dose levels in medical imaging, minimize unnecessary exposures, and enhance patient safety. By identifying factors influencing dose levels and cancer risk, this study informs evidence-based decision-making and supports the development of guidelines and protocols for radiation protection in clinical practice.
Overall, this study enhances our understanding of the radiation dose and cancer risk associated with selected digital X-ray examinations, contributing to the advancement of patient-centered care and radiation safety in medical imaging practices.
