Abstract

This study investigates the potential association between blood group types and susceptibility to bacterial infections in diabetic patients at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood sugar levels, which can weaken the immune system and increase susceptibility to infections. Bacterial infections are common complications of diabetes and can lead to severe health consequences if not promptly treated.

The study aims to determine whether specific blood group types are more prone to bacterial infections among diabetic patients. By analyzing medical records and conducting microbiological tests on bacterial isolates from diabetic patients with different blood group types, the research seeks to elucidate any significant correlations between blood group types and susceptibility to bacterial infections.
