EFFECTS OF PODCASTS AND LANGUAGE GAMES STRATEGIES ON STUDENTS LEARNING OUTCOMES IN VOCABULARY AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL

Abstract

This study explores the effects of integrating podcasts and language games as instructional strategies on students’ learning outcomes in vocabulary acquisition among secondary school students. With the increasing integration of digital technologies in education, innovative approaches are necessary to engage students and enhance their language proficiency. This research investigates the effectiveness of podcasts, which provide auditory exposure to language in an engaging format, and language games, which offer interactive and enjoyable practice opportunities, in improving vocabulary retention and usage.

A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving two groups of secondary school students: one group was exposed to vocabulary lessons through podcasts, while the other utilized language games. A control group received traditional vocabulary instruction. Pre-tests and post-tests were administered to assess the students’ vocabulary knowledge before and after the intervention.

The results indicate a significant improvement in vocabulary acquisition in the groups exposed to podcasts and language games compared to the control group. Students in the podcast group demonstrated enhanced listening and comprehension skills, while those in the language games group showed greater engagement and retention of vocabulary. The study highlights the potential of these strategies to create a more dynamic and effective learning environment, catering to diverse learning preferences and needs.

The findings suggest that incorporating podcasts and language games into the curriculum can significantly enhance students’ vocabulary learning outcomes, providing educators with practical tools to foster language development. This study contributes to the growing body of research on innovative educational strategies and offers recommendations for integrating technology and interactive learning methods into secondary school language instruction.
